1. Dry Valleys (Antartica)

Pulau yang berada di wilayah negara Yaman ini adalah pulau terpencil yang didiami sekitar 40.000 orang. Nama Socotra itu sendiri diambil dari bahasa Sansekerta yang artinya ?Pulau Kebahagiaan?. Banyak pohon dan tumbuhan di pulau ini termasuk dalam kategori flora endemis, yang artinya tidak akan pernah ditemukan di tempat lain di dunia selain di pulau Socotra. Bahkan ada beberapa varietas yang diprediksikan telah mencapai usia 20 juta tahun.
Beberapa alasan mengenai Pulau Socotra shingga tidak menjadi tujuan wisata meski bentang alamnya sangat menarik :
* Pulau Socotra adalah pulau yang memiliki iklim tropis padang pasir. Panasnya dapat mencapai 40 derajat celcius.
* Karena Pulau Socotra adalah pulau yang dilindungi kelestariannya di sana hampir tidak dibangun jalanan. Satu-satunya jalanan yang ada di sana, baru dibangun sekitar 2 tahun lalu. itu pun dengan perjanjian yang alot antara Pemerintah Yaman dan UNESCO.
* Agar tidak banyak turis yang datang ke Pulau Socotra dan agar kealamian dari pulau Socotra itu tetap terjaga maka jangan harap menemukan hotel atau tempat peristirahatan di sana.
Akhirnya, mungkin pulau Socotra memang bukan tujuan wisata yang tepat dan nyaman. Lagipula jauh lebih baik jika pulau ini tidak terlalu banyak dijamah oleh manusia, yang ada nanti malah habitat aslinya rusak. kita cukup mengagumi keanehan pulau ini melalui gambar-gambarnya.
